Guest Reporter – Mark Porter vs Littleborough

I was sat in the usual spot at 1 o’clock thinking we should be 3 hours in hoping for an early finish to settle down and watch England in a World Cup Final but unfortunately Football isn’t coming home, but Cricket is and we have an eager anticipation of our own Worsley Cup Final in 3 weeks time.

We’ll concentrate on league for now with an important game against Littleborough who lie in 22nd place, should be an easy win but I have watched cricket long enough to say it’s a given. Littleborough won the toss and elected to bat.

Littleborough made a very steady start with Pye and Eadsforth picking off the 1’s and 2’s and a couple of lovely cover drives for 4 by Pye damaging Toxys usually tight first few overs. Dom Stuarts first 4 went for 11 but was replaced by Sub Pro Akbar-ur-Rehman and Toxy was replaced by Joey Hawke after not being able to make a breakthrough. Joey and Akbar bowled very well stemming the runs before eventually Lowerhouse got their first wicket in the 15th over with the score on 44, a brilliant Run Out by Charlie, out by at least a yard to give the umpire an easy decision.

Next in was Hernon. Not long after Pye who scored 30 was clean bowled by Joey sending his wicket cartwheeling. Enter Littleborough’s Pro who has had an indifferent start to the season scoring 349 runs including 1 century of 126. 2 50’s but only 76 in the other 11 innings, he fell for 9, clean bowled by Akbar 81/3.

Joey and Akbar continued to chip away at Littleborough with the Sub Pro eventually getting 5 wickets with some wonderful bowling and Joey picking up another one. Paddy and Frankie came into the fray continuing with the tight bowling and Frankie picking up 2 wickets.

After the loss of the pro the last 7 wickets fell for 41. Hernon fell for the 9th wicket after a gutsy 41 feeling frustrated after his team failed to stay with him to amass a competitive score. Littleborough closed on 122 all out after 45.4 overs.

Joey’s 2 for 11 from 13 is just as good a performance as Akbars 5fer.

Lowerhouse opened with Ben and Charlie to begin a relatively low score chase but unfortunately Charlie fell without scoring in the 2nd over, trapped leg before. Akbar in next to join Ben. Both started playing some great strokes, Ben continuing his great form and Akbar looking comfortable as he was last week at Burnley. Lowerhouse eventually reaching the total with only 25 overs gone.

Sub Pro now stands with 99 runs not out and 9 for 69 in 2 games, hopefully we will see more of him in the coming games and Ben continues on his quest for the club batting record.

12 Points for the House as we stay in Second place. Up the House

Note to self, never leave my bag unattended when writing an LHCC game report if Gary Ingham is about, he felt the need to add to my report on which I will quote; “Joey Hawke looks extremely fit in his tight pants..” the other one is unprintable.
