House Beaten At Nelson

Posted under Club Chat

House suffered a 69 run defeat against Nelson at Seedhill on Sunday.

Nelson professional Burton de Wett top scored with 73, including a dozen fours in his sides 218-6. He put on 73 for the 4th wicket with Sean Lemon (38) and 52 for the 5th wicket with Rizwan Hussain, who made 42. Thomas Lord was unbeaten on 22. The House attack which was weakened in the absence of Russell and Finch was carried by the pro who returned 3-103 from 25 overs.

The pro then top scored with 45 as we mustered 149 all out. Sam Halstead took 4-44 and de Wett capped a fine game by taking 4-37. Last man Joe Martin (15), Matt Doughty (14) and Ben Heap (13) put up most resistance in our reply. Scorecard

Heal Topples League Leaders!

Posted under Club Chat

Aaron Heal returned to form with an excellent 91 as House toppled league leaders Haslingden on Saturday.

Batting first, Haslingden piled up 263-6 with professional Phil Hayes making an unbeaten 102 with nine fours and three sixes. Hayes put on 84 for the 2nd wicket with Mohsin Imtiaz (60 with eleven fours and a six) whilst he was also well supported by Steve Dearden (25) and Lee Ingham (37). Jon Finch took 4-74.

In reply openers Finch and Jonny Whitehead (23) put on 67 and then Finch added 61 for the 2nd wicket with professional Aaron Heal before falling to Jack Sudworth for 50. Heal and Chris Bleazard (45) took the score to 215 with a 3rd wicket stand of 87. Dearden then removed Bleazard and Ben Heap in successive balls. He then bowled Charlie Cottam a wide before he clean bowled the with his next ball. 3 wickets in 4 balls seemed to leave the innings in tatters but Heal continued scoring runs, finally falling for 91 run out trying to retain the strike. As the pro departed 27 was still wanted. Young Fergus Bailey continued his good form with17 not out releaving the pressure by hitting Steve Dearden for 6 whilst veteran Joe Beneduce 16 not out then finished off a remarkable victory with just 4 balls remaining. Scorecard

Patrick Martin 40

Still without many regulars the boys battled hard against an experience East Lancs side who deservedly are up at the top of the league. Two unfortunate decisions ripped the LHCC innings apart. A boundary catch step over witnessed by no less than 6 players and spectators and the East Lancs scorer, and a one person appeal LBW accounted for Doughty and Martin respectively. 250 was needed and looked likely until this happened

LHCC 3 XI – 246-8                                   Bacup 241 all out

Josh Lavin 50                                            Shaun Heaton 4-50

Matt Hay 33

Dec Bailey 33

Lewis Marsden 27

After an astonishing batting rescue at Colne the week before, an exhilarating bowling performance this week. Maiden 50s for the 2 under 15s and all the batting in general was a joy to behold and set up a big score. At 35 -4 Bacup seemed buried but last years 1XI retired captain Killilea and first team squad member Thompson put on 175 and left Bacup need ing 35 off 7 overs .

Heaton and Edgar returned to the attack and a great catch by Matt Hay broke the partnership. Starved of the strike by good bowling and captaincy forced Killilea into an injudicious shot and Edgar bowled him. Needing 11 off the last over a run out and caught behind saw Bacup all out. Great credit to the kids who battled on throughout
