Drew Out On Top In Battle Of The Pro’s

Posted under Club Chat

Tasmania won a tense low scoring Ford Ranger Cup Final at the Bellerive Oval.

Victoria batted first and could only muster 158 from 37.3 overs with David Hussey top scoring with 50 and Andrew McDonald next best with 35.  Brendan returned figures of 0-38 from his 6 overs.  Brett Geeves took 3-28 to leave him tied with Brendan as the leading Ford Ranger Cup wicket taker.

In reply Tasmania were asked to chase a rain reduced 131 and they made hard work of it slipping to 76-5 and then 109-7 before reaching 128-9.  Travis Birt hit the winning runs from the first ball of Macca’s final over to leave himself 37 not out and make Tasmania reigning Ford Ranger Cup and Pura Cup Champions.

One Day Final For Brendan

Posted under Club Chat

Professional for the 2008 season Brendan Drew goes head to head with our league winning pro from 2005 Andrew McDonald in the Ford Ranger Cup Final this weekend.  The Ford Ranger Cup is the premier one day competition in Australian Cricket and the final is set to take place at Bellerive Oval, the home of Tasmania on Saturday 23rd February 2008.

Brendan will be hoping to grab a wicket or two and confirm his position as the competitions leading wicket taker in 2007/2008.  Brendan currently has 15 wickets at 27.89 with a seasons best of 3-15.  His nearest challengers are his Tasmanian counterpart Brett Geeves with 12 and Victoria’s Bryce McGain also with 12.

Brendan is set to arrive at Lowerhouse in the week prior to the season starting.

All at Lowerhouse wish Brendan well this coming weekend and of course for the 2008 Lancashire League Season.

Brendan Drew Signs!!

Posted under Club Chat

Lowerhouse Cricket Club is delighted to announce the signing of Australian BRENDAN DREW as the 2008 professional.

BRENDAN is a hugely talented 24 year-old fast-medium bowler and right hand batsman and has been a regular member of the Tasmanian state side since making his debut in 2005. He has taken 52 wickets in 19 first-class matches to date and 25 in 15 one-day games. He averages 12 with the bat at first class and 23 in one-day cricket. He was invited to the Australian Academy in 2007 and named in the preliminary squad for the Twenty20 World Championship in 2007.

Director David Wren says “We are very pleased to have signed Brendan. We have been following his progress for a couple of seasons following his transfer to Tasmania. I have spoken to Ryan Harris about him as a person and character and both felt he would fit in well at Lowerhouse and be a major asset. He is a quality player with strong personality and I’m sure he will have a marked effect on the players, particularly the many young players coming through, and will be very popular with the members and supporters.

Drew was in the headlines recently when taking 5-36 for Tasmania against the touring Sri Lankans. Brendan Drew Bowling
