Double Derby Weekend Winners!

Posted under Club Chat

The House completed a derby weekend double in stunning fashion on Sunday as they beat rivals Burnley by 5 wickets.

Good knocks by skipper Steve Brunt (47 not out), Michael Kelly (43), Chris Burton (31), professional Farhaan Behardien (30), and former House pair Bharat Tripathi (20 not out) and Qasim ali (17) took Burnley to 229-6. Graham Lalor snared Charlie Cottam (10) at 15 but Jon Finch returned to the top of the order and scored an excellent  (58 with seven fours and two sixes) as he and the pro (38) put on 92 to take us past the ton. Kelly (2-56) removed both Finch and the pro but Chris Bleazard was in imperious form bludgeoning 61 to see House home. Blez hit five fours and three sixes with Joe Beneduce (34 not out) providing some of the cleanest hitting seen at West End in many a year.. Scorecard

The Steps Gang Enjoy The Derby!!

On Friday a strange end saw House triumph amidst confusion. House were awarded victory by virtue of losing fewer wickets after the scores finished level . Bharat Tripathi top scored with 29 in Burnley’s 100 all out. Jon Finch took 1-5 from his 4 over spell. Graham Lalor replied with 2-9 from his 4 overs as Lowerhouse stumbled to 100-6. Finch made 29 and skipper Charlie Cottam 25 with the pair opening up with a stand of 44. Tripathi also took 2-15. Scott Hope hit the run to tie the scores with the result being confirmed after consulting the rule book.  Scorecard

Todmorden 2XI – 211- 9                                 LHCC 2XI – 183 – all out

Michael Lee 3-26                                               Jonny Whitehead 54

Kieran Tighe 3-30                                              Matt Doughty 43

Rhys Woodworth 23

The loss of both tosses on 2 scorching days proved to be the undoing of the 2nd team youngsters. On Saturday Accrington posted a big score with 14 year old Jack Herbert, the pick of the bowlers. A magnificent start from the ebullient Jonny Whitehead gave the lads a chance but the reply fizzled out in the energy sapping heat.

On Sunday in the Cup, the bowlers restricted Todmorden well but the final wicket stand of 35 proved to be the difference.

With the average age at under 17 this weekend, the boys can be very pleased at how well they played.

SYCAMORE FARM SPONSORED JUNIOR RESULTS

LHCC U17 – 106 – 6                                                     Longridge 105 -2

Joe Martin 40

Rhys Woodworth 24

Jonny Whitehead 15

Max Howells 10

Bizarrely Longridge managed not to overtake the lads score despite being only 2 wickets down. Needing 15 off 2 overs, a magnificent outfield dive by Joe Martin won the points

Nelson U15 126-5                                                            LHCC U15 Sharks – 113 – 5

Josh Lavin 2-16                                                                 Will Paton 33*

Ismael Khalil 18

Josh Lavin 16

Max Humberstone 15

A spirited performance from the lads who were reeling from Nelson scoring at 11 an over for the first 6 overs. Josh Lavin had a hand in all the wickets with 2 catches and a direct hit run out

Rawtenstall u15 90 – 9                                         LHCC Dolphins 73 -6

Nic Whitehead 4-14                                                Jack Herbert 12

Sean Duckworth 2-8                                                Joe Gray 11

The Rawtenstall bowling proved too much for the first year under 15s

LHCC U 13 Panthers 128- 7                             Ramsbottom u13 full    111-8

Adam Stubbs 32*

Matt Locke 21

Shannon Jackson 5-17                                             Rachel Stracey 10*

Despite the outstanding bowling performance from Shannon, the loss of 3 wickets in the last over from a won position, cost the game

Longridge u11 (a) 223-7                                   LHCC U11 Bears 240 -3

Ryan Starkie 2-12                                               Declan Stansfield 11*

Tom Bridge 2-20

A good victory for the boys on a pitch that resembled Goose Green. The wickets were pitched in cracks in the surface. The lads had to be brave with several taking blows from beamers, throws kicking up and full length balls rearing. Suits of armour required for the next visit

LHCC U11 Bears played in a round robin tournament at Read CC and having beaten both Read and Padiham were beaten in the final by Clitheroe.

Tom Bridge was top wicket taker, Christian Butschok – Brain the top run score but the event will be remembered for the magnificent left handed catch by keeper Harry Wheatcroft , described by manager Stan Heaton as the best he had ever seen in under 11 cricket.

The Unlucky U11's at Read CC

LHCC U11 Cubs 287-1                                      Salesbury U11 214-4

Dominic Cheetham 2-6                                        Aaron Morris 11

A narrow defeat for the junior 11s – early signs that they are adapting well to organised matches

LHCC 9s – 253 – 3                                        Longridge 9s – 233 – 8

Ben Woodall 13                                              Ed Turner 3-16

Tom Halstead 12*                                          Jake Turner 2-6
