It’s not often that a last-minute stand-in rewrites the script — but that’s exactly what happened in 2001 when Lowerhouse turned to Asif Mujtaba as a sub professional.
Enter Mujtaba.
With the ball, he produced one of the most devastating spells in Lowerhouse history, returning figures of 9 for 61 from 24.5 overs, single-handedly dismantling Todmorden for just 167.
As if that wasn’t enough, Mujtaba then opened the batting and won the match himself, scoring 104 out of the 168 required — an incredible all-round performance that secured a famous victory for the West Enders.
When you consider the context, the pressure, and the sheer dominance with both bat and ball, it begs the question:
Was this the greatest sub professional performance the Lancashire League has ever seen?
Let us know your thoughts — and if you were there, we’d love to hear your memories of the day.
