Lowerhouse closed on a second ever league title by beating defending champions Ramsbottom at Liverpool Road by 3 wickets in a last over thriller. Paddy Martin hit the decisive boundary off Michael Haslam’s last over after Lowerhouse needed 8 runs from the final 6 balls. The youngster then hit the winning run off the penultimate ball to send the home supporters into rapturous celebrations. In a 30 overs a-side game tight bowling by Jon Finch (4-35), Fergus Bailey (2-39) and professional Francios Haasbroek (1-32) enabled Lowerhouse to restrict Ramsbottom to 113-7. David Bell made 30, adding 41 for the 3rd wicket with his professional Shanan Stewart (23, passing 900 runs for the season) and 24 for the 4th wicket with his brother Alex who made 24. Haslam removed Finch (4) at 16 and skipper Jon Fielding had Joe Martin (8) well caught by Andy Hakin at mid wicket. Ben Heap made 22 before lofting Haslam to Keith Webb who took a good catch at long off. Chris Bleazard perished in the same manner for 1 and then Fielding trapped his opposite number Charlie Cottam without scoring to leave the leaders on 73-5. Haasbroek made 28 before Fielding yorked him but Joe Beneduce hit the left armer for a straight six to make the home side favourites. He soon perished but Paddy Martin (16 not out) and Matt Walker (6 not out) put on a vital 18 to win the match after going into the last over needing 8 for victory.
