2nd Team Captains Preview – Scott Hope

Newly appointed second team captain Scott Hope gave us his thoughts on the season ahead…

The 2014 season will be another big season for us. After a third place finish last year in an extremely strong, experienced second team league, I expect us to build on that and people to contribute with even more individual performances.

At times last year, we showed our lack of experience but this can be expected with Haggers being the oldest player in the team at the tender age of 29 and me the second oldest player at 24. This just goes to show what a great achievement finishing third last year and runners up the year before.

I am expecting big things from a few individuals this year, with them all being a year older and another years cricket under their belt. Lads like Rhys Woodworth, Josh Lavin and Corey Hope have big parts to play this year and will be needed at important parts of the game. More consistency from lads like Ben Gorton and Dec Bailey will be expected and a lot more overs will be bowled by Jamie Woodall. Haggers needs to make sure he doesn’t come to life towards the end of the season (just before he is close to being dropped) and be consistent throughout the campaign. We are hoping Lewis Marsden will be home soon enough to play a few aggressive mainstays for us which will help bolster our top order and add more experience.

I would like us to have a better cup run this term, something we have struggled with over the past few years but I am sure we can make this happen this year. I expect us to be right up there at the top of the league, an expectancy that is there because of the talent we have in our team.

All in all, I am looking forward to the season starting (not so much the friendlies in the freezing cold temperatures and the wet outfields). Here is to a long, hot summer with plenty of aggressive, entertaining cricket.
