Club News & Junior Reports – 7th September 2011

CLUB NEWS

History was created on Saturday when Shannon Jackson (under 15) became the first girl to represent a Lowerhouse senior team when she played in the 3XI game v Rishton. Shannon bowled 2 over before rain stopped play.

Shannon is a county under 17 and under 15 player and earned her call up to the 3rd XI through her bowling performances in the under 15s at LHCC. The club expect that other girls will follow into senior cricket and it will be interesting to watch their progress.

SENIOR RESULTS

LHCC 2XI 188-7              Todmorden 187- 9

Phil Haggerty 57            Mickey Lee 3-29

Dec Bailey 48                 Matt Marquis 3-53

Jonny Whitehead 31           Jack Edgar 2- 15

Mickey Lee 17*

This was a decent batting performance, most noticeably an 85 run stand from the leading run makers Haggerty and Bailey. However at the half way mark in the Todmorden innings they only required 65 with 9 wickets left. A smart stumping from the emerging 14 year old Ben Gorton removed the dangermen. Hitherto he had profited from several misfields and dropped catches and decidedly ordinary bowling.

Matt Marquis broke the mould for poor fielding with a wonderful boundary catch and it became clear that Todmorden would not have the hitting power to win as easily as it looked. Tight bowling and loss of wickets left Todmorden needing 9 off the last over which finished up with 6 needed off the last ball – LHCC settled for an edged 4.

Joe Hawke missed the game having been selected for Lancashire Colts

Rishton 3XI – 132– 6 (rain stop play)

Josh Lavin 4-21

Corey Hope 2- 29

A valiant effort by the umpires, players and groundstaff in the face of persistent drizzle and eventually heavy showers

Darwen u15 143 -1                                    LHCC U15 Dolphins 71- 3

Harry Halstead 27

James Ridehalgh 18

Hannah Till 10

The youngsters were out to the sword somewhat in the field by a powerful Darwen A team. Harry Halstead put another tidy knock together an earned himself a call up to the 3rd XI. Harry is grandson of former well know local publican and LHCC legend Peter Scaife.

Accrington CC 118-7          LHCC u15 Dolphins 101 – 2   MATCH ABANDONED

Joe Bayliff 3-14                                 Will Norcross 41*

James Ridehalgh 2-14                        Harry Halstead 16

Joe Bayliff 14*

The game was abandoned due to failing light.

The Dolphins have finished joint bottom of the league but can take heart from their efforts this season against entirely A teams.

Haslingden u13 full 61 – 7                                  LHCC U13 Panthers 62-2

Adam Stubbs 3- 7                                                   Harry Spark 28

Kean Craig 3-7                                                       Tom Nicholas 10*

This victory in the final game will see the team either champions or joint champions. The team has some little gems in it but the biggest key to success is the team spirit and the fact that all the team can pout a performance in when called upon.

Austerlands CC U9 246-4                         LHCC u9 – 238 – 0

Henri Cottam 2-14

This friendly and final game of the season saw 4 newcomers make their LHCC debut in preparation for next season. Best forward defence of the morning and most successful bowler was young Cottam so well done to mum Louise as it is unlikely that those skills were inherited from dad Charlie.
