Craig Heaton Trophy & District Cricket

Lancaster district U13 – 167 – all out                   Burnley District u13 – 93 all out

Burnley won the toss and inserted Lancaster who got off to a flier. Although Harry Spark (8-1-25-1) bowled tightly especially in his first spell (5-1-8-1), the Burnley bowlers struggled to come to terms with the soft wicket and bowled far too short.

Once Sam Frith had departed for a sprightly 33, Lancaster lost 3 further quick wickets but Satchwell, Cookson and the middle order took advantage of poor bowling to take the score up to 150. A late flurry of wickets saw the innings close with 8 overs remaining with Curtis Meehan the outstanding pick of the later bowlers (7-0-41-4).

Burnley began the reply competently but following the needless run out of Adam Stubbs few of the home batsmen showed much intention to graft. A series of injudicious shots and 2 further needless run outs saw the home side dismissed for 93 in the 29th over.

Matty Thornton with 13 top scored and only Stubbs, Rowe and Nicholas reached double figures.

Prior to the start of the game the Craig Heaton Memorial Award was presented by Craig’s dad Jim to Josh Broadhurst as the District trialist showing most progress.
