From the 1970s to 2010s – traversing 5 decades as a committeeman, chairman and supporter, David was at the helm and steered the club from the lowest of positions through to League and Cup double winners.

Most significantly he took personal financial responsibility for keeping the club afloat during its darkest hours.

During David’s tenure the club has significantly improved the playing facilities and clubroom.

He has invested in people, machinery, renovations and junior development including the largest outdoor nets facility in the country.

Success has followed on the field.

All Lowerhouse supporters know his paramount contribution to the survival and development of the club and are eternally grateful.

David individually saved the club from a financial crisis on several occasions by using his own money to keep the club afloat and so often carrying the burden of the club’s administration for considerably lengthy periods.

Taking the club from the lowest point of its history, to the highest point of its history.

Often described as the Cinderella club of the Lancashire League, the club had been in existence for 143 years before winning its first trophy under David’s tenure.

Since that first cup trophy in 2004 the club has won the League twice in the inter years and last season the cup and league double.

Under David the club has increased its junior cricketers from a handful in 3 teams to 140 children in 13 teams. The club has also increased the number of girl and ethnic minority cricketers from nil to 14% and 9% respectively. It has increased its membership 5 fold.

Despite previous financial hardship, as described the club has become financially stable and been able to invest in the largest artificial practice facility in the Country – a 6 lane outdoor artificial net, without which the club could not accommodate so many young cricketers.

David has invested heavily in people and encouraged the cricket side of the club to flourish which in turn has given the children of the local community an opportunity to play cricket and learn cricket skills and skills for life within the safe environment that is Lowerhouse CC.

Anyone who knew Lowerhouse CC prior to David’s tenure would find it utterly incredible that the club could have survived let alone reached the heights of involvement and achievement.

Of behalf of all at Lowerhouse CC Frank Entwiste Secretary said

“We are all extremely proud that David’s hard work and dedication has been recognised outside the club,

This award is very special we’re over the moon, there is no bigger fan of Lowerhouse CC than David Wren.

He’s given up his free time, he’s cared. Those involved in running and assisting at club’s like ours know the difficulties we face sometimes it totally envelops your life David has taken this all in his stride and he’s a worthy winner
