Derby Day – Sun 26th Aug 07

Derby day returns to West End this coming weekend when arch rivals Burnley visit on Sunday. With the weather supposedly improving and a Bank Holiday Monday to follow a big crowd is expected.

Barring any last minute itches, the House side is likely to to be the same as the one that locks horns with Enfield on the Saturday.

Defending Champions Burnley have not had their Defence all their own way and currently sit in fourth place 32 points behind leaders Rishton and 10 points in front of Lowerhouse. They will no doubt be keen to exact revenge following their humbling at the hands of a young and inexperienced Lowerhouse side earlier this season. Lowerhouse will hope maintain their Indian sign over their rivals and continue their impressive recent derby record.

Whilst the Burnley players are well known to Lowerhouse fans and players their star performers this year have been Jon Harvey, Jon Clare and James Capstick.

Pro and skipper Harvey is a local lad in his third season at Burnley as the paid man. This season, to date, he has scored 527 runs in 15 innings at 43.91 with an high score of 80 not out. His bowling stats are 37 wickets at 14.91 with a best of 6-71.

The leading amateur batsman is Jon Clare who boasts 675 runs from 16 hits at 48.21 and a best of 102 not out.

Leading amateur bowler for Burnley is a familiar face to Lowerhouse followers, James “Bully” Capstick. After leaving Lowerhouse for a long stretch at Baxenden in the Ribb League, Bully turned up at Burnley last year and this season he has 26 wickets at 19.03 with a seasons best of 5-63.

The second team tavel to Burnley in an eagerly anticipated match up between two teams vying for honours in the league.

Here’s hoping for great weather, a big crowd and a couple of Lowerhouse wins!!
