Firsts make it 2 in 2 – Rainy Weekend Roundup

In a weekend plagued by the rain, the Firsts managed to squeeze a game (and a win!) in on Sunday.

On Saturday, the 3rds and 4ths were both postponed after the deluge in the morning.

On Sunday, the Second Eleven played at home against Colne – a biblical downpour hit on the stoke of half time and play had to be abandoned. House made 166 for 8 off their 45 overs with Joel Sharpe and George Durkin hit 34 and Declan Metcalfe 31.

On Sunday the First Team beat Walsden when DLS method kicked in following a couple of breaks in play for rain and bad light. This game saw Charlie Cottam take his 200th Lancashire League catch. House go to second in the league after two games.

Lancashireleague.com report stated:

Half centuries from skipper Ben Heap and sub professional Ruhan Pretorius helped Lowerhouse post 229-7 at Walsden. Heap hit eight fours and a couple of sixes with Pretorius hitting four sixes and two fours, the pair adding 79 for the 3rd wicket. Chris Bleazard also hit an unbeaten 20, adding an unbroken 29 for the 8th wicket with Charlie Cottam (10 not out). Thomas Walker (16) and Francois Haasbroek (15) also chipped in with Walsden professional Sachin Jayawardena taking 4-55 and Sheik Islam picking up 3-54 for Walsden. Chasing 130 from 23 overs Walsden had made 96-6 when rain returned to end their innings. Nick Barker and Matt Dawson made 22 apiece, Cameron Hanson 19 and Elliott Gilford an unbeaten 15.
