House Beat Tod To Seal The Championship!!

Lowerhouse won their second ever Lancashire League Title, 6 years to the day since their last triumph, with a 45 run win over Todmorden at Centre Vale.

House started Sunday needing just seven points from their two remaining games. Jon Finch was the star of the show with a magnificent career best 8-38.

Having won the toss deciding to bat House struggled to 127 all out on a difficult looking wicket.  They were made to fight for every run as Todmorden pro Qaiser Abbas bowled through taking 6-55. Stevie Barker also took 2-48. Jon Finch (16) and Ben Heap for 10 put on 30 for the first wicket before Finch played on whilst trying to up the scoring rate. The pro (9), Charlie (9) Blez (15) and Joe Martin (11) all contributed. However, the pick of the batters was Paddy Martin who hit 20 whilst at the end of the innings  an unbeaten 15 by Matt Walker and 8 by Fergus Bailey helped to set a target of 128 for victory.

In reply Todmorden never got going with wickets falling at regualr intervals. The bowling of Finch and the pro who bowled 18 overs for 29 runs, made life impossible for the home sides batsmen.  The pro and Finch nagged away and one by one the Todmorden batsmen fell. The dangerous Simon Newbitt stop scored with 16, James Crossley made 15 and Tod skipper Andrew Sutcliffe 13. The end came when Danny Brown walked down the wicket to Finch and was stumped handing House their second league title in front of a jubilant and vociferous following!
