January News from the Secretary

Dear Player, Member, Parent or Supporter

A very Happy New Year. I guess like myself and my fellow Directors and members of the Club`s Management committee we are all glad to see the back of 2020

When I last wrote to you in March 2020, I noted

“An increase in the spread and number of confirmed cases of the Coronavirus and the number of people affected in the UK is continuing to rise as such 2020 may potentially prove to be one of the most difficult in the club’s long history

Even in my worse-case scenario none of us could have envisaged the catastrophic events that unfolded across the country and at the time of writing we are of course not out of the wood`s yet. That said however, we remain ever hopeful and feel confident that there is plenty to look forward to in 2021.

 Annual General Meeting

The scheduled 2020 AGM was cancelled due to the escalating Coronavirus Pandemic. Our initial intention at this time is to incorporate information for the financial year ended 30/9/2019 & 30/9/2020 into an AGM to be held at Noon on Sunday 4th April 2021 at the club and this will incorporate the New Year Draw

Professional News

We extend a warm welcome to the Lowerhouse Family to new professional Stephen Parry signed on a 2-year deal for the 2021 & 2022 seasons.

Stephen is a right-handed batsman and slow left arm bowler who recently announced his departure from first class cricket with Lancashire, a county he has served with distinction since his 2007 debut. He leaves as Lancashire`s all time leading T20 wicket taker.

Parry represented England in ODI & T20 on 7 occasions.

Due to COVID-19 his 2020 Lancashire Testimonial will carry over into 2021 and Lowerhouse will play a full part in helping Stephen with this plan, in return Stephen is very much looking forward to getting struck in and coaching the clubs promising youngsters

Club House Update

The club`s main income stream `the bar` remains closed under various Tier Restrictions and has done so since the effective end of the cricket season, that said we continue to receive some government support which helps to cover the club’s outgoings

Further details will be released once the work is completed however, we have taken the opportunity of an enforced closure and utilized Development Funds, Inheritance Income and a Government Bounce Back Loan to make repairs and improvements to our club house facility:

Ladies and Gents toilets have both been refurbished.

The Bar has been renovated and repainted and will provide a brand-new look and feel

The Internal ceiling and lighting have been replaced

The club has been redecorated

Additional works now to be completed include:

The entire roof covering the dance floor in the club is to be replaced, once completed the internal roof will then be replaced along with the lighting and then the final piece of the puzzle a new carpet can be laid.

All told once the work has been completed this will be an investment in the region of £42,000 however as custodians, we feel this will be money well spend to improve our main income stream and member experience for a number of years

The New Year Raffle

Every year the clubs New Year Raffle raises incredibly vital funds that we use towards the continues development of our junior section.

The funds allow us to bring in additional coaching resources to allow us to extend our activities across the range of age groups

I fully appreciate that selling to friends, family and work colleagues this year will be even more difficult than previous and prove more trying than it has ever been but please try as we must ensure our cricket activities are funded and ready to commence as soon as practicable

I enclose £25 worth, sell what you can and remember every penny is invested in our junior section and we are always immensely thankful for your support.
