The town’s boys district cricket programme has reached the end of the league stage with the under 11s leading the way.

Despite the batting heroics the under 15s are likely to miss out on progressing to the knockout stage because of rained off fixtures. A silver lining has been Ben Gorton’s (LHCC) call up to the Lancashire 15s B squad where he scored 26 v Wales.

The under 13s are sweating on other results to see whether they can progress. The team featured county under 13 Tom Lawson (BCC) and county under 12 Joe Halstead (LHCC). 

The under 11s are through to the knockout stage. The team has steam rolled all before it thanks to the run scorers from Burnley CC and the excellent bowling from all the lads from our 3 clubs.

The loss of wickets at crucial times prevented Lowerhouse reaching their target against an experienced Burnley side.

The game began in a bizarre fashion with a debate about the alignment of the stumps which turned out to be an optical illusion. This was despite the fact that the stumps at Haslingden had to be realigned the previous week. Unfortunately none of the batsmen got to grips with the actual wicket with wickets tumbling regularly as the ball reacted to the wet conditions. The 32 opening stand by the Lowerhouse top scorers proved vital.

Very much a game of youth v experience as Todmorden fielded 2 veteran 1XI players in Mark Clayton and Iby Ali. After probably allowing Todmorden to score 30 more than they should, LHCC were I real difficulties until a xxxx stand by the 2 leading scorers saw the team home with 3 overs to go. Surprisingly this was Dec bailey (u17) first second ele4ven 50 but surely many more to come

For the first time this season a little disappointment crept in with this performance as dropped catches cost the team dear. A 75 partnership between the 2 leading run scores and others chipping in gave a decent total to defend.

In a rain reduced match the 3s took a lashing from the belligerent hitters from Salesbury. Well done to Danny Simm for his top score.

With a largely  under 13 team out the 3s were soundly beaten notably by Accrington 2xi player Liam Smalley who bludgeoned 37 before being bowled out by  Georgia Clough . The youngsters performed well and played proper cricket but age and physique make a big difference .

A 4^th defeat in 5 for this very talented team who repeatedly continue to score at too slow a pace to win games. Whilst time at the crease is great for the development of the players in the long term this must be balanced by the recognition of the need to score at the required run rate. The penny must drop soon.
