Lewis and Dean steal the show – Weekend Roundup

Another weekend full of cricket saw mixed fortunes for the club after our feature in The Guardian on Saturday night. For those that haven’t read it, you can do here. Thanks to Andy Bull for the write up and Tom Jenkins for the amazing photos.

Saturday saw the first team head to Rochdale in the 2nd round of the Worsley Cup. On a day where it threatened to throw it down, but never did House put up a strong 212 for 8 on the board after losing two early wickets. Ocki (52) and Frankie (45) dug in to get us there. We pinned their batsmen down early on but didn’t manage to get the breakthroughs needed with Rochdale making some good partnerships and getting over the finish line in the last over, 7 wickets down. Good luck in the next round Rochdale. Full scorecard here

The second team continued their rich vein of form comprehensively beating Clitheroe on Saturday in the Telegraph Trophy. Ben Uttley and Haggers made 39 for the first wicket, but both lost their wickets in quick succession at 47 for 2. Enter Dean Barlow and Lewis Marsden, who took the total to 267 for 3 putting on 220 for the third wicket – our records for second team cricket aren’t as good as the firsts, but I’m sure this has to be a partnership record. Lewis and Dean hitting maiden tons for the club. Lewis scored exactly 100 off 103 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. Dean scored 122 off 114 balls with 14 fours and 4 sixes. House made 315 for 5 from our 50.  Clitheroe were bowled out for 199  after a brief rain break and a revised target of 305. Wickets were shared, Dom Stuart the pick of the bowlers with 3. Sunday saw the 250th Lowerhouse versus Burnley Derby. Burnley won the toss and batted first, with Toxy getting Holt in the first over and Joe Hawke got the wicket of Shah, also early on. Enter Darryn Smit who made 84* as Burnley made it to 143/2 off a rain reduced 27 over innings. Jonny and Ben got off to a strong start putting on 50 for the first wicket but tight bowling meant that the run rate was always creeping up. House made it to 111 for 7 off their 27 losing wickets at regular intervals. Sub professional Smit took 5 wickets. Full scorecard here

The seconds played at home to Nelson on Sunday and Lewis and Dean played a big part again. Losing just 1 of their 6 league games, the seconds now sit in the top three, after another rain reduced game. Nelson hit 152 for 7 in their 35 overs. Matt Hope took 4 quick wickets to restrict them. House knocked them off with two overs to go with Dean hitting 62 and Lewis 45 to bring home the points. Full scorecard here

The fourth team play away at Clitheroe today with the third team at home to Church – all support welcome.
