Lowerhouse v Heyside

For the 2nd day in a row, Lowerhouse won handsomely as they brushed aside Heyside in the 1st round of the LCB Cup.

The visitors elected to bat first and it proved to be a disastrous decision as the hosts tore into them, taking a multitude of wickets early on. Matt Walker (3/22) and Cobus Pienaar (3/24) made sure that they have barely any chance of posting a decent total as they trundled to 27/6. Bloor managed to take the score past 100 on his way to a forceful 68. Joe Hawke (3/8) and Jack Edgar (1/28) ended the fun though to bowl Heyside out for 127 with 10 overs still to go in the innings.

Edgar and Joe Martin once again partnered each other at the top of the order but didn’t manage the same success as they did 24 hours earlier. Edgar was bowled out for 5 trying to drive Bloor and Joe was ran out comfortably when on 18. Paddy Martin (2) had a short stay at the crease before being bowled by ex-Colne professional Shadley Van Schalkwyk. This left the score at 30/3 but Pienaar and Walker started to take charge with some bit hitting off each bowler and set Lowerhouse on their way to a commanding win. Pienaar finished on 35 not out and Walker was just one of a half century with 49 not out. The final score was 128/3 off 25.3 overs.

MOM was Matt Walker for his 3/22 & 49 not out. Rhys Woodworth also made his 1st team competitive debut.

Lowerhouse will play West Houghton or Saddleworth in the next round. Colne are the next league opponents on Sunday.
