Lowerhouse v Stand

Lowerhouse completed their pre-season preparations with a comfortable 7 wicket success over Bury outfit Stand.

The visitors batted first and never got above 4 runs an overs thanks to neat bowling from Joe Hawke and professional Cobus Pienaar. Pienaar took a wicket with his very first ball when the opening batsman left one that he thought was missing off stump. Paddy Martin and Matt Walker were introduced to the attack and both made further inroads into the Stand batting order with Martin taking 2/25 and Walker 1/20. Ben Heap also bowled a useful spell of 1/18. Only Holt (41) made a significant contribution as Stand finished on 130/7 after their 40 overs.

Lowerhouse’s response started slowly with two early losses. Whitehead went for 11 after an impressive catch and Pienaar only managed 4 before being bowled round his legs after a mistimed sweep shot. Jack Edgar, however, was going along steadily and when Ben Heap joined him at the crease the innings started to gather momentum. Heap reached 22 before being stumped to leave the home side on 73/3. Matt Walker was next in and kept the flow of runs going with a number of boundaries on his way to 25 not out as part of a winning partnership of 60. Edgar finished his steady innings on 38 not out as the ‘House reached the target with 13 overs still remaining. Final score was 133/3.

MOM was Jack Edgar for his 38*.
