Match Reports – 28th May 2012

SENIOR RESULTS

Accrington 2XI 116 – 9                LHCC 2XI 92- 9

Matt Marquis 5-25                    Josh Lavin 18

Lewis Marsden 18

Scott Hope 17

Phil Haggerty 16

A particularly grim day all round. Shaun Heaton damaged his thumb in the warm up and was unable to play and Dec Bailey broke his hand whilst fielding. The 80 over game began in waterlogged conditions and the square suffered significant damage. In addition the umpires tried to deduct a point from the Lowerhouse 3 points for slow over rate but this is not possible in a 40 over innings. No batsman came to terms with the conditions. Matt Marquis getting a deserved 5 wicket haul.

Rawtenstall 2XI 115 – all out          LHCC 2XI 117- 8

Micky Lee 3-17                     Josh Lavin 32

Scott Hope 3-27                    Matt Marquis 26*

Jack Edgar 2-24                    Ben Gorton 16

Matt Marquis 2-30

Lowerhouse progress to the 2nd round of the cup following this nervy win over high flying Rawtenstall. After old boy Ross Brown’s departure for 50 with the score at 70-2, the bowlers hauled the game back to leave what should have been a simple target to achieve. Not so. Fortunately Gorton (u15) and Lee batted around Lavin (u17) before Matt Marquis hit a quick fire 26 with Kieran Tighe defending stubbornly at the other end. Micky Lee is a welcome return after completing his university course.

Church u17 – 81-9                                                       LHCC u17- 82- 6

Joe Gray 2-11                                              Jack Edgar 35*

James Ridehalgh 2-13                                 Josh Lavin 13

Danny Starkie 2- 19

The LHCC batsmen made heavy weather of this and were indebted to Jack Edgar’s stoicism to win the game.

East Lancs 140-7                                              LHCC U15 Cup 123 – all out

Ben Gorton 54*

Harry Halstead 20

Harry Spark 12

A failure to come to terms with the short boundary plus some woeful bowling meant that cup exploits for 2012 disappeared. Ben Gorton scored his third successive unbeaten 50 but the 25 extras reflected the poor bowling performance.

Lowerhouse u15 Sharks 111-1                  Burnley u15 112-5

Ben Gorton 51*                                            James Stackhouse 2-19

Liam Heaton 31*

Joe Bayliff 17*

As Burnley only won the game with 3 balls to go the Lowerhouse batsmen must reflect on the disparity of their score and the wickets down. In simple terms as the innings wears on 125 – 9 is better than 111- 1.

Longridge u15 (b) 69 -6                             LHCC U15 Dolphins 72- 3

Joey Stein 3-8                                               Tom Nicholas 30*

Alex Claridge Ingham 19

Longridge are the only other team to have a 2XI and were well beaten by our 2XI.

LHCC u13 Jaguars   216- 7                           Haslingden u13s 247 -4

Rowan Greenwood 17

Despite the score the team played well but a couple of individual calamities cost wickets. Rowan greenwood (u11) continues to develop promisingly after a year out of the game.

 Nelson u11 cup 213-9                                           LHCC u11 Bears Cup 258-5

Tom Halstead 5- 4                                                Jack Simm 18*

Caleb Greenhalgh 14

Ben Woodall 12*

Josh Moodie 11

The Bears progressed to the second round of the cup with a mixed bowling performance. Having gifted early wides, the bowlers clawed the game back with Tom Halstead (under 10) bowling very well indeed. He was ably assisted by 2 catches from Josh Moodie one of which was described by manager Stan Heaton as the best under 11 catch he had ever seen with the other catch in the top 5.

Several very good batting performances too.

Church u11 219-5                                                       LHCC U11 Cubs 209 – 7

Kheiro Chir 2-4                                                            Ed Turner 11

Too many wickets lost in this defeat.

Burnley u11 (b) 242-3                                          LHCC U11 cubs 196-7

Eddie Turner 2-9

Again the loss of wickets proved to be the undoing of the 2 team. This is most unlike Lowerhouse teams and must improve.

LHCC u11 Koalas 217-5                                          Bacup u11 (b) 191-6

Georgina Coates 2-3

Brooklyn Dobbie 2-11

A good victory for our 3rd team with the bowling winning the match

Ramsbottom u9 237-3                                             LHCC u9 208 – 8

Aman Singh 13*

James Bridge 12*

Despite the efforts of the unvanquished Bridge and Singh, the loss of 8 other wickets cost the team very dearly and more work needed on this aspect .
