Mixed Fortunes For House!

It was a mixed weekend at Liverpool Road with defeat for the first time in 7 league games on Saturday and derby day delight on the Sunday.

In form Haslingden inflicted our first defeat in seven matches on Saturday with a 65 run win at Liverpool Road. An excellent 3rd wicket stand of 155 between professional David Bandy (93) and Steve Dearden (88) did the damage and helped Haslingden rack up an imposing 276-5.  After a good start by the pro and Hawkey Haslingden were 40-2 with Oliver Rigby and the dangerous Graham Knowles back in the tent.  However, Dearden and Bandy came together and scored freely to take the game away from House.  Dearden was dismissed on 88 excellently caught by Jack McGregor off the bowling of Joe Hawke. John Pemberton and Bandy were then involved in a suicidal run out with Bandy returning to the pavilion for 93.  Pemberton made amends with some big hitting in recording an unbeaten 36. The pro picking up 3-70 with the ball.

House’ innings got off to a slow start and we were soon in trouble at 49-6 with a mixture of poor shots and bad luck proving our down fall.  With the game seemingly all over, Joe Hawke joined the pro and an excellent stand of 113 gave House a shout. Drew smashed 103 with seven sixes and seven fours whilst Joe Hawke batted sensibly in making 23.  Drew was the bowled by Steve Dearden before Joe Beneduce hit a quick 33 but the lads still finished pointless 211 all out.

On Sunday it was the final derby game of the season and House retained the bragging rights to complete a league double over our nearest rivals securing a 64 run victory.  The evergreen Chris Bleazard hit 53 and the pro made 35 before being superbly caught by former Houser Bharat Tripathi off his own bowling. Joe Beneduce again chipped in with 27 and the skip made 16 as House closed on 176-9.  Another former Houser James Capstick collected 4-57 and Tripathi took 3-59.

The pro then took centre stage with the ball as he snared 5 of the Burnley batsmen conceding just 37 runs in the process.  Things started well for House as Danny Pickup was bowled by Joe Hawke for 2 and Ben Law was trapped in front for 9.  Michael Kelly came and went without troubling the scorers and Mohammed Jamal was dismissed by the pro. With Burnley in trouble the returning Jon Finch dismissed Jeeeva Kulatunga (11)caught and bowled leaving Burnley struggling at 59-5.  Burnley were eventually dismissed for 112 with Jonny Russell mopping up the tail up with 3-12.  Steve Brunt provided some late order resistance as he top scored for Burnley with an unbeaten 26.
