Ian Wrigley – Obituary

Lowerhouse Cricket Club are saddened to hear the news of the passing of Ian Wrigley.

“Wrig” played for the club for some 20 years from the early fifties to the early seventies predominantly as the Second Eleven Wicket Keeper and Captain.

Chairman Stan Heaton paid the following tribute to Ian.

“Ian was a good cricketer and a good captain and a super bloke. I was very young when I played in the Seconds and Ian helped put youngsters at ease in what was quite a tough era. He was a gentle man, with a fine sense of humour and told some great tales. He loved his horse racing and I remember one game where he took his transistor radio out on to the field in his pocket to listen to an important race. Ian continued to support the club and was a member of the 100 club. We send our deepest sympathy to Margaret and Ian’s daughters.”

The funeral will take place at Burnley Crematorium at 10.40am on Friday. mourners are encouraged to wear something red, which was Ian’s favourite colour.
