Sad news – Alan Cottam

The club is again saddened to announce the passing of another member of the club family

Alan Cottam has passed away. Alan is a former sponsor and current member and of course, father and grandfather to club cricketers Charlie and Henri and Eliza respectively.

Alan was a very friendly man and hugely popular to all, especially that generation of cricketers who have grown up at the club with Charlie since Charlie’s early teens. Despite health difficulties in recent years Alan continued to attend matches to watch Charlie, Henri’s and Eliza’s teams. Alan in his modest unassuming way was very proud indeed in what Charlie has achieved in cricket both on a personal level and as a hugely successful first eleven captain.

Indeed he was so proud that when Charlie and Matt Stansfield went away on holiday Alan presented them with a CD to listen to. Wondering what it could be, the lads popped the CD on one night and spent the rest of the evening listening to the Radio Lancs commentary of the 2004 Cup final, which of course contained Charlie’s magnificent innings with Chris Bleazard. It goes without challenge that Alan was also immensely proud of the wonderful start in cricket that Henri and Eliza have made. Under 14 Henri scoring runs galore at junior, district and Forth Eleven cricket and making a number of Second Eleven appearances last season. Under 12 Eliza playing so well and making the County girls team these past few years. On behalf of all at the club we extend our deepest sympathies to Charlie, Ben, Sarah and of course all the family .

Funeral arrangements are Burnley Crematorium on Friday November 1st at noon followed by a wake at the club. It would be appreciated if those returning to the club could simply text Stan on 07941439741 to assess numbers. Family flowers only please and donations can be made to Lowerhouse CC Juniors.
