2XI RESULTS

COLNE 2 XI 199-7                                                  LHCC 2XI – 203 – 8

Jack Moodie 2-17                                                 James Wheatcroft 69

                                                                              Ben Uttley 36*

                                                                             Owen Deakin – Pickard 28

This was a result which should give the player great heart in facing further fixtures plus some learning points. Main learning point that the whole of the 2s and 3s can learn from was the patience of Ben Uttley and the dogged determination of his 9th wicket batting partner Tom Bridge in seeing us home. After James Wheatcroft’s stylish 69, wickets were thrown away until Ben and Tom saw us home

Cricket matters
Following on from last week’s comments on discipline I report that Lowerhouse, Burnley and the League will meet at Burnley CC next week for discussions. Burnley skipper Bharat Tripathi, our managing director Matt Stansfield and I had a decent chat at the recent u17s game at the House.

A feature of the game was the friendly way in which the u17s played and indeed the following day when the District 15s played together. (More to follow on district cricket in due course but a magnificent, match winning anchor role from Bryce Johnstone 97*( Burnley ) in chasing down 250) .

The junior coaches from Burnley and Lowerhouse get on well, the juniors get on well, all is well in the bar afterwards. All we need now is the adults to behave from 1pm to match end! It’s as simple as that.

A significant comment on spectator behaviour from Ian Walker at Colne CC. Attendees may remember from David’s funeral, the moving eulogy sent to me from Ian. Ian is a Colne stalwart and largely responsible for the tremendous condition that the Horsfield is in. Ian rang me to ask me to publicly thank Lowerhouse supporters for attending in numbers, spending money in the bar and tea room (no surprise there) and supporting the raffle. Well done our people and thanks to Ian for his call. Colne are on a revival at the moment and long may it continue and develop.

Representative Cricket

Fortunately the rain came late enough for the majority of the schools year 6 girls cricket competition at Lowerhouse to be completed. Each year, all primary and some secondary boys and girls play in 4 competitions at Burnley CC and Lowerhouse CC in a Kwik cricket competition. Cricket within schools is extremely limited and Lowerhouse CC are in the process of dovetailing with the Lancashire Schools Partnership to increase the involvement in schools. The Lancashire Schools Partnership run competitions which are magnificent to watch and great credit goes to Helen and her team, including our own Paddy Martin. To see our local grounds with 4 pitches going full tilt with a dozen or more schools at each ground is a sight to see.

Despite today’s deluge, we are optimistic that we can host the final this morning (Thursday)

Floods

Many will have seen the flood pictures on the website and I can honestly say that still photographs did not do it justice.

That said this was a temporary problem and will cause us nothing like the heartache suffered by Ramsbottom pre-season.

I will say no more than is necessary for the information of members, some of whom are our neighbours and have been adversely affected by this. Sodden carpets are already appearing on the back street. The simple fact of the matter is that the volume of water entering our ground (drains) from the uppermost adjoining property is torrential in circumstances such as today and indeed lesser circumstances. Normally our ground can absorb/contain even the worst of incoming water and rainfall. Today however, the incoming water was too great and a deluge exited our ground, flooding Thornhill Street, back Thornhill Street, and indeed Lowerhouse Lane. Although not our fault, we can only apologise to our neighbours and assure them that we will continue to try and address the issue with the council, county council and the uppermost adjoining landowners. As indeed we have tried to do over several years.

Thanks to Dave Waddington , Bob Spencer , Vinnie Whittaker , Anne Cochrane , the neighbours and Lancashire Fire Brigade who all turned out to try and limit the damage , especially to the local children who turned up with brushes and squeegees. Not only will their school uniforms need a dry clean but so will our own Liberty Heap’s. Libby (12) turned up with mum Shelly to help the neighbours stem the flow of water on to Thornhill Street
