Sweet Triple Header – Weekend Roundup

The First Eleven had a triple header with a T20, Worsley Cup and a League game all thrown in the mix. Well, what a weekend it was, with success in every game.

Nigel Stockley does such a good job with LancashireLeague.com, I’ll let you know what he thought of the games instead of my normal weekly roundup. #LazyAdam.

On Friday:

The first match to finish was at the Brooks Foundation Ground where Lowerhouse beat Rishton by 7 wickets. Skipper Paddy Martin (2-23), Ben Heap (2-9) and professional Ruan de Swardt (2-18) all picked up a couple of wickets apiece to restrict Rishton to 118-9. Skipper Matt Leathert hit 38 for Rishton. Francois Haasbroek hit an unbeaten 55 from 48 balls with five fours and a six to lead Lowerhouse to victory in the 17th over. Jack Simm also hit 40 from 25 balls.

On Saturday:

League leaders Lowerhouse go through after a 134 run win over Rochdale at The Brooks Foundation Ground. Lowerhouse piled up 301-7 with skipper Ben Heap hitting 81, including eleven fours and Francois Haasbroek making a run a ball 61 with ten fours. The pair shared an opening stand of 101. Jack Simm (38 from 28 balls), Henri Cottam (36), Joe Hawke (32 not out) and Charlie Cottam (23) also added useful runs for Lowerhouse. Rochdale began well with openers professional Henry Hunt (45) and Jack Duffy putting on 81. Duffy carried on in T20 mode smashing 58 from 43 balls with nine fours and a six. Hunt fell to Paddy Martin who picked up a match winning 5-39 as Rochdale fell from 114-2 to 167 all out, Andy Harrison hitting 20.

On Sunday:

A nail-biting 2 run win at Littleborough keeps Lowerhouse on top by virtue of their six wins. Zac Perren took a senior best 5-11 to help dismiss Lowerhouse for 162. Professional Ruan de Swardt made 28, Joe Hawke 22, Francois Haasbroek 21, Joe Martin an unbeaten 19, Henri Cottam 18 and skipper Ben Heap 15. Zac Perren top scored with 42 but de Swardt took 4-48 to help restrict Littleborough to 160-8. Skipper Clinton Perren (26), Ryan Miskella (23), Tom Pye (19), professional Bryce Street (17) and Matt Hernon (16) all chipped in but tight bowling from the Lowerhouse attack gave the visitors 10 points.

On Saturday the Second Team came second against Darwen and are subsequently out of the Junior Cup. Charlie Bithell won the toss and batted first and we were bowled out for 175 off 45.4 overs. Charlie top scored with 38 and Elliot Johnstone scored 36.  In reply Darwen knocked them off 3 down with 6 overs to go, with James Broome taking two of the wickets.

On Sunday, the Seconds fell agonisingly short in the League at home to Littleborough. They won the toss and batted, posting 233/8 off their 45 overs. Skipper Charlie was the main stay of the bowlers with 3 wickets. In reply, House kept up with the run rate, but fell just 3 runs short, 6 wickets down. Keagan De Vries top scored with 60, Dec Stansfield scored 51 and Will Norcross 44.
