Weekend Preview & Teams

The season comes to an end this weekend with a third consecutive double header.

On Saturday the first XI travel to champions elect, Rishton.  Rishton who have a game in hand on second placed Rawtenstall need just four points to secure their first title since the year of Allan Donald in 1995.

At the start of the season not many would have tipped Rishton but they have remained top for the majority of the season.  Much of the credit must go to professional, Saeed Anwar who plays first class cricket for Multan in Pakistan.  Anwar, who has sub pro’d for House previously has had a superb season.  His left handed batting has reaped 885 runs at 59.00 with a seasons best of 185 not out.  His slow left arm bowling has earned him 71 wickets at 13.02 with a seasons best of 6-42.

Anwar has not done it all on his own and he has been ably assisted on the batting front by John Cordingley who has scored 386 runs at 25.73 with a best of 74 not out.  In the bowling department, John Seedle is the leading amateur with 28 wickets at 18.64 and a seasons best of 5-36.

On Sunday House host Church who currently sit in twelfth place after a difficult season.

Church’s pro is Sri Lankan, Ruwin Peiris.  Peiris has not been as successful as in previous seasons although he has 615 runs at  36.17 and 56 wickets at 14.80.  His best batting performance is 82 and his bowling 7-80.

On the amateur front Alec Holt and Phil Sykes are vying for leading batter with 257 and 242 runs respectively.  Andrew Bentley has had an impressive season with the ball, taking 45 wickets at 19.95 with  a best of 8-88.

Long term absentees apart House are at relatively full strength this weekend.  Jack McGregor misses Saturday so Frank stands in behind the poles.

Pro for Saturday is Francois Van Der Merwe of Western Transvaal, South Africa. 31 year old Van Der Merwe bats right handed and bowls right arm medium fast.  He has 49 first class wickets with a best of 5-45.

On Sunday we have New Zealand quick, Graeme Aldridge.  29 year old Aldridge who represents Northern Districts has 140 first class wickets at 30.70 and a career best of 5-33.

The second XI have just one game, traveling to Church on Sunday hoping to secure runners up spot in the league.

The third XI conclude their season with an home game against Bacup On Saturday.

Supporters are reminded that top local band “The Outside” are playing in the club room after Sundays final game.
