From Outfield to Flower Bed – A New Lease of Life at Lowerhouse

Sometimes, it’s the little touches around the ground that make all the difference.

Around this time last year, following the clearance of the trees and the old groundsman’s hut, a small space at Lowerhouse was ready for a new purpose. What’s been created since is a brilliant example of how a bit of creativity – and a lot of effort – can transform an area into something really special.

Much of the credit goes to Susanne Heap and Dave Waddington, who have led the way in turning the space into a charming garden feature that’s now catching the eye of players and spectators alike.

From its original state, the area has gradually evolved, with careful planting and attention bringing it to life over the course of the season.

Now, it’s reached another level – with colourful bedding plants set into a piece of old cricket ground equipment, giving it a unique Lowerhouse twist.

The equipment itself has an interesting story. It appears to be a roller/spiker manufactured by SCH Supplies – a company that, remarkably, is still going strong today and proud of its heritage.

It’s great to see a piece of machinery like this finding a second life in such a creative way, becoming part of the ground’s character rather than fading into history. Who knows – it might even catch the attention of SCH themselves!

A big thank you again to Susanne and Dave for their hard work and imagination. It’s touches like this that continue to make Lowerhouse a special place both on and off the field.
