A weekend of mixed results – Weekend Roundup

Saturday saw the first round of the Worsley Cup with both teams facing Bacup.

The First Eleven were away with pro Ruan making his debut. Bacup won the toss and stuck us in. House made 231 for 3 off their 50 overs. Ben carried his bat (a first for a Lowerhouse player in the Worlsey Cup) and got his highest Worsley Cup score of 126* – just 13 short of the club Worsley Cup record. Paddy Martin was also not out on 54 in a great total for the club. In reply, House bowled Bacup out for 547. Ruan took 3 wickets, Paddy 2, Henri, Toxy and Tom with 1 a piece. House romped into the next round by 174 runs.

The Second Eleven had the same result against the same opponents at home. Bacup won the toss and batted first. They posted 133/8 off their 50. Charlie Bithell was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets, with the rest shared. House got to 127/5 off 26.3 when the rain came, winning by Duckworth Lewis method by 5 runs. The in form Dec Metcalfe top scored with 41.

On Sunday, both teams played Enfield and both suffered defeat to the Premier League newbies.

The First Team won the toss and fielded. Enfield made 242 for 7 from their 50 with Toxy taking 4 for 62 off 14 passing 100 career Lancashire League wickets for Lowerhouse. In reply, Henri Cottam was the mainstay of the attack, but we lost wickets at regular intervals. Henri made a career best 81 batting most of the overs. Ben and Blez made 19 a piece and House were bowled out for 162 from 46.2 overs. House are now 3rd in the league with 3 wins out of 4.

Jack Simm won the toss and decided to field against Enfield Seconds, they made 204 for 5 from their 45. Charlie Bithell took 2 wickets with the rest shared. In reply House were 151 all out with Joel Sharpe top scoring on 32.
