Captains Preview – Charlie Cottam

As well as speaking to the Vice, we’ve asked the skipper for his predictions for 2014;

2014 should be another successful season at Lowerhouse. There is a buzz around the players and the club this season that seems very special…People have asked me ‘why?’… obviously recent success creates anticipation and a good buzz from all involved, Francois has been the most successful pro at LHCC of all time; but the arrival of a new pro is always exciting, we are hoping the winter Aussies (Joe and Jonny) have developed and will become regular match winners because they have the talent to be just that and much more, and the the pre-season training has a great feel about it, very tough but hopefully worthwhile.

Since I have played at Lowerhouse, the team spirit has always been magnificent and I truly believe that the kind of togetherness we have at the moment can make a very good team into one that will be remembered for many years, a team that others strive to be as good as…this is what we aim for.

We are blessed with a team full of very talented amateurs, but they train exceptionally hard together and all the trophies that they have won over the last few years have been results of this hard work.

We were nowhere near at our best last season, Accrington were deserved league winners, but we still came runners up in the league, semis in the Worsley and T20 champions….if we play to our full potential, if all the players stay fit and we add Finchy to the mix, if Cobus fulfils his huge potential, if Blez continues to hit the ball a sweet as any amateur I have ever played with or against, if players start to play for the team and only the team, then we should again be challenging in all formats… the league will be very strong this season, it is very exciting, but I still feel that we are the best team in the league at the moment.

We have the best fans in the league by a long long way and it would not be the same winning in front of any others…long may it continue and roll on April!
