Christmas Message

On behalf of the directors and committee of Lowerhouse Cricket Club, I’d like to wish all of our members, players, supporters, sponsors and neighbours a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I think it is fair to say that 2020 has been an unusual and difficult year for us all.

As the first lockdown ended, it was a great credit to our club and the wider Lancashire League that despite everything we were able to host some cricket at both junior and senior levels. It was a welcome respite from the previous 3 months and the quality of competition was excellent. We saw familiar faces performing well and also caught a glimpse of some of our future stars! It was equally great to see so many new faces visiting the club and we hope to see them back next season.

Sadly, during 2020 we have lost many friends and people that have long been associated with our club. At this time of year, particularly in these unprecedented times, we spare a thought for their friends and families.

Despite all that has happened this year, as custodians of the club, we must always have one eye on the future. As such, as those that listen to the excellent podcasts will know, we have started a scheme of works aimed at improving and future proofing the clubs main income stream, `the bar’.

As the club remains closed under various tier restrictions and has done so since the effective end of the cricket season,, we have taken the opportunity of an enforced closure to make repairs and improvements to our club house facility:
-Ladies and Gents toilets have both been completely refurbished.
-The Bar has been renovated and updated to provide a brand-new look and feel
-The Internal ceiling and lighting have been replaced
– The club has been completely redecorated

Additional works still to be completed in early 2021 will see the entire roof covering the dance floor in the club being replaced with new ceilings and lighting and then the final piece of the jigsaw, new carpets and flooring laid.
As a committee we feel this will be money well spent and that it will assist in both protecting and to improving our main income stream. We feel that we will be able to provide a facility that our members and neighbours can be proud of!

All of this comes at a cost and we are indebted to the continued hard work of our committee along with the financial support of our sponsors and members.
It’s now time to put 2020 behind us and look forward to the future!

So, 2021, to compliment our outstanding amateur line up we have signed an exciting professional in Stephen Parry and come April, I hope to see you all on the ground, watching cricket, enjoying a beer and the great company that Lowerhouse has to offer!

Roll on next summer, Up The House #UTH
