Match Reports: First and Second Eleven vs Clitheroe

First Eleven

Lowerhouse won the toss and elected to bat first at The Brooks Foundation Ground against Clitheroe.

Ben Heap was the first wicket to fall for 11 with the score on 39. Jonny Whitehead followed for 42 at 125 for 2, before an outstanding unbeaten partnership took the hosts to a commanding total of 301 for 2 from their 50 overs.

Henri Cottam batted throughout the innings to finish on an excellent 105 not out, bringing up his maiden Lancashire League century. At the other end, Dan Salpietro continued his remarkable form, making it two centuries in two matches as he also finished on 105. The pair shared an unbroken third-wicket partnership of 176.

Clitheroe contributed 41 extras, the fourth-highest total of extras conceded against Lowerhouse in a Lancashire League match.

In reply, Clitheroe battled hard and never gave in, but lost wickets at regular intervals throughout the chase. They were eventually bowled out for 256 with just one ball remaining, giving Lowerhouse a 45-run victory and an important 12-point haul.

Dan Salpietro completed an outstanding all-round performance with 3 for 57 from 12.5 overs. Toxy Hussain claimed 3 for 42 from 13 overs, while Paddy Martin finished with 2 for 72 from 11 overs.


Second Eleven

The Second Eleven also travelled to Clitheroe and, after winning the toss, chose to bat first.

Lowerhouse were dismissed for 176 in 43.5 overs, with Chris Bleazard top scoring with 48.

Clitheroe reached their target for the loss of three wickets in 39.4 overs.

Oliver Williams, Jax Edwards and Yanis Chir each picked up a wicket for Lowerhouse.
