Lowerhouse CC County Girls
Lowerhouse CC are pleased to announce that a number of their girls have been selected for the county age groups.
Top of the tree are Maddy White and Hannah Till who have recently returned from a 5 county competition in Dubai. The tour was for the under 19 age group but the girls (pictured) are still under 16 and under 17 respectively. Hannah is an opening bat and wicket keeper and particularly received praise from the county staff for her batting in Dubai. Maddy is an all-rounder and excellent fielder.
At under 15 level, Lowerhouse have 3 girls. Under 15 Jessica Nixon is a fast bowler whose batting is also flourishing.
Under 14 all-rounder Georgia Clough has been a county player for a number of years and has been selected a year ahead as an under 14. Georgia is described as an outstanding prospect.
Having only broken into the county under 13s last season Becky Jo Gorton has excelled in also being selected a year early. Becky is relatively new to cricket but has always been a good quick bowler and her batting is developing nicely. Becky is the granddaughter of local league legend Steve Gee and 15 year old brother ben is the 2XI keeper at Lowerhouse.
Also in the wicket keeping mould is under 12 Georgie Holt who has been selected for the under 13s squad. Also a very capable batsman, Georgie has done very well indeed to get into the team a year early.
Youngest of the quintet is Liberty Heap – Gibbons who has been selected for the County 11s despite being only an under 9. Liberty has been taught well at home by first teamer Ben Heap and has only been at the club for one season. Cricket manager Stan Heaton described her as one of the most technically correct 9 year olds he had ever seen.
Stan commented “Make no mistake; these girls are excellent cricketers for their age. In all cases they are the equal if not better than most of the boys in their age groups. We look forward to assisting their progress within our junior section and indeed the seniors. Shannon Jackson has already played 3Xi cricket and Hannah Till would have last season but for cancellations. The girls also have the outlet of women’s cricket with Read CC where we specifically send the girls once they are ready and some with other women’s teams.”
