Sad News – Ernest Whittaker

Lowerhouse CC are sorry to hear of the passing of member and keen supporter Ernie Whittaker.

Ernie died recently after a short illness aged 74. Although domiciled in London, Ernie made frequent trips to Burnley to watch the team. Ernie was a Rosegrover and had been interested in the club from the age of 6. He continued to follow the club even after emigrating to Australia where he spent 20 plus years before returning.

Ernie was a frequent email correspondent with me wherein he would expound his opinions on the rules, the recent match and indeed anything cricket. Ernie will be also be remembered for his humorous and sometimes controversial letters to the Burnley Express on the subject of cricket and other topics.

Ernie’s sister Frances described Ernie’s love of the club and Lowerhouse CC as Ernie’s happy place.

We extend our sympathies to Frances, husband David and Ernie’s family here and in Australia
