First Eleven Fall Short Against Todmorden
Ben Heap won the toss on another glorious afternoon at Lowerhouse and elected to bat first against Todmorden.
Charlie and Henri Cottam opened the innings, marking the first time a father and son have opened the batting for Lowerhouse since the Tripathis in 2005. However, the hosts endured an unconventional start, slipping to 38 for 4 after 14 overs.
Keagan De Vries and Shaukat Ali steadied the innings with an important partnership before De Vries was dismissed for 21. Lowerhouse were made to work hard on what appeared to be a decent batting surface, with Todmorden bowling and fielding well throughout. The innings closed on 176 for 8 from 50 overs, with Shaukat Ali finishing unbeaten on a superb 45.
Todmorden reached 89 for 3 at the halfway stage of their reply, with professional Taylor bringing up a run-a-ball half-century. With the visitors needing just 23 runs from 74 balls and six wickets in hand, Tom Walker provided a breakthrough by dismissing the Todmorden professional. However, Todmorden completed the chase in 42.3 overs to claim the victory and the 10 league points.
Second Eleven Keep Pressure on League Leaders
The Second Eleven travelled to Todmorden, where Declan Stansfield won the toss and chose to bat first.
Lowerhouse posted an impressive 248 for 8 from their 45 overs, with Joe Clark leading the way with 44. Joel Sharpe added 43, while Declan Stansfield contributed a valuable 36 in another strong all-round batting performance.
In reply, Todmorden were restricted to 209 for 9 from their allotted 45 overs. Declan Stansfield claimed 3 for 57, while Yanis Chir and Charlie Bithell each picked up two wickets as Lowerhouse secured a comfortable victory.
The win leaves the Second Eleven sitting second in the table, just four points behind league leaders Norden.
