1969: At the nets now!

Anne and the Civil Trust society have again come up trumps with some great images from the Burnley Express in 1969.

Anne said: ‘There were 14 images and I have removed duplicates leaving 8 images. I know 1969 is pre-history but the first image shows Vincent Astin who was Phil’s Dad, and there are some really nice pictures of pro Des Sparks bowling. There are various people in the background including Gordon Jones and Ian Wrigley, and others who I don’t recognise.’ Answer on a postcard for those please.

At the nets now!

Lowerhouse CC have started the season early, at least they have begun intensive practice – the indoor nets being at the Barden sports hall on a Sunday morning.

They had a distinguished visitor last Sunday morning when their Lancashire League representative Mr. W. Fielding was accompanied by Rodney Cass, formerly of Essex and now on the Worcestershire CCC ground staff and probable first-team wicketkeeper for 1969.

Rodney attended prepared to practise with the Lowerhouse players and had a workout along with the new West End professional, South African Des Sparks and the new captain, John Stott, who has succeededo Malcolm Blackhurst.

Decision on the playing of the artificial pitch – “excellent”.
