Some great images from a game down at Lowerhouse in 1975, aquired from BTCHIC.org
From a match report by Don Smith:
Burnley enjoyed a happy weekend with 10 points which included two as bonus for the bowling out of Accrington and Lowerhouse. The West Enders lost at Rawtenstall but managed a bonus point on Sunday for dismissing Burnley on a chilly Derby Day. The two weekend matches were not lost altogether for Lowerhouse who, with Alan Holden unfit, and a depleted attack, had Lanchbury as star bowler in the derby game. The pro. took five for 42 in eight overs three balls. However, the principal “discovery” was former Padiham and Clitheroe player Peter Atkinson who was promoted after several performances in the second team. He scored 52 not out at Rawtenstall where he had a 100 stand with Kevin Higgins, and an unbeaten 31 at the West End. Roland Harrison led Burnley to their double victories with a 57 at Lowerhouse following 54 the previous day. Plummer scored 46 on Saturday and took four for 15 on Sunday. The Roland Harrison-Michael McLeod partnership looked like a three figure model when they were together at the half century, but Mick Jones broke the 57 stand off Trevor’s bowling and gave Lowerhouse some hope.
The inclusion of Bob Lanchbury in the attack for the first time before home supporters occasioned some heightened curiosity until he began to take wickets. It became apparent that the pro. was no novice but he was supported by some excellent work in the field as the West Enders held their catches. Two on the boundary were well held by John Sudall but Alan Boardwell diving forward broke a finger in taking one at square leg. After holding one and amid minor disasters Trevor Pickup opened up and then was last out caught by Kevin Higgins with a falling catch on the boundary edge.
The first Lowerhouse wicket fell at 28, the second at 42 and Brian Higgin was developing an attractive hard hitting innings when he paid the penalty of a no back lift forward push and Graham Bushell accepted a skied catch. A stand between the amateur Atkinson and Lanchbury could have accentuated Lowerhouse’s reply into a real challenge but the pro. attempted to pull Plummer, completely misjudged the spin and was bowled for 19. Atkinson could find no one who could stay long enough to help his efforts and Joe Fletcher ended the home bid to prevent Burnley taking a bonus point with less than four overs left.
