Drama at Seedhill

League leaders Lowerhouse were held to a tie at Nelson. Needing 7 runs off the last over for victory, Lowerhouse lost 2 wickets and then needed 3 off the last ball. A misfield allowed the last pair of Fergus Bailey and Jonny Russell to scramble for a second run to level the match. Nelson had earlier made 175-6 with Stuart Lemon hitting 46, including seven fours, Sean Lemon 33 not out, David Crotty 22, skipper Thomas Lord 20, Peter Dibb 18 and Neil Thompson 16. The only man to fail was sub professional Kuldeep Diwan who was out first ball to his opposite number Francios Haasbroek (3-50). The in-form Ben Heap failed for once, trapped by Richard Meade (4-60) for 5 but Joe Martin (24) took the score to 43 when he fell to Lord. Hassan Abbas and Haasbroek then put on 99 for the 3rd wicket. The South African made 42 and Abbas 68, including six fours and a five. Wickets tumbled in the quest for runs as 142-2 became 157-7. Diwan took 3-68 to set up a dramatic finale.
